MTN will enable global IoT connectivity for business customers in South Africa after striking a partnership with Cisco Jasper

MTN has signed a partnership with Cisco Jasper to enable internet of things worldwide connectivity for business customers throughout South Africa.

The partnership is Cisco Jasper’s first move into South Africa and will see MTN use the vendor’s Control Center platform to manage its IoT connectivity.

MTN GM for ICT solutions Mariana Kruger claimed the partnership will help entrench MTN’s position in the IoT and connected vehicles sector, leveraging the operator’s expansive network. Though the deal initially only covers South Africa, MTN said it will look to leverage its 22 points of presence across Africa in a future expansion.

“Our business customers in nearly every industry are looking to innovate and transform their businesses by offering connected services,” said Kruger.

“The combination of our powerful mobile networks and Cisco Jasper’s leading IoT platform will empower our customers to deliver new connected services that generate recurring revenues, while also enhancing their customers’ experiences. More enterprises globally rely on Cisco Jasper Control Center than any other IoT platform, and we are excited to bring its capabilities to our customers.”

MTN highlighted a number of key markets which will benefit from Cisco Jasper’s Control Center platform including: Telematics and vehicle diagnostics; vehicle tracking; security and automation; and logistics.

Cisco Jasper’s Control Center is used by more than 14,000 enterprises worldwide to manage and monetise IoT connectivity.

“For more than a decade, Cisco Jasper has been helping enterprises across every industry to enhance their customers’ experiences through connected services,” said Kalle Ward, managing director EMEAR, IoT Cloud at Cisco Jasper.

“We do this by partnering with the most strategic mobile operators, and by combining the Control Center platform with their mobile networks and expertise, together we help businesses automate and manage the delivery of their IoT services globally. We are excited to partner with MTN and to expand into South Africa to serve this new, strategic market.”
