Spanish operator signs global framework that will see it use Astellia's geolocation RAN-optimisation platform

Telefonica has struck a global framework agreement with network intelligence provider Astellia to deploy the latter’s geolocation-based RAN optimisation platform.

The deal, which was signed at last week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, will see Astellia’s solution rolled out across Telefonica’s Latin America network, after initial deployment in Spain.

The solution offers geolocation services in a number of applications, such as troubleshooting and analytics, helping mobile operators to boost customer experience.

Telefonica will also use information from the tool to feed big data initiatives and data monetisation opportunities.

"We are confident that with this next phase in our partnership we will address the challenges of delivering a great customer experience to the millions of subscribers of the Telefonica Group. It will allow us to leverage Astellia’s best-in-class geolocation accuracy to optimize network deployment and increase RAN performance efficiency,” said Juan Carlos García, RAN GCTO director at Telefonica.

Astellia’s Nova uses unique algorithms to integrate fingerprinting, trilateration and minimisation of test drives. It offers network-wide coverage maps, including indoor and outdoor location, and assessed network behaviour to help operators identify hotspots for future cell deployments.

Astellia CEO Abdelkrim Benamar said: "We appreciate the trust Telefonica Group is placing once again in Astellia, it clearly demonstrates the strength of our ongoing partnership.

“We are striving together to improve network optimization teams’ efficiency, assure an excellent customer experience and generate new revenue streams. We are committed to continue bringing innovation to meet future needs of this tier one operator.”
