Tele2 announces its COO, Niklas Sonkin, is to leave the company this Friday, September 2

Sonkin, who assumed the position as COO of Tele2 in October 2015, joined the company in 2009 and has been responsible for developing the company’s operations outside of Sweden and the Netherlands, will remain as chairman of the board of Tele2’s JV operation in Kazakhstan, Khan Tengri Holding B.V. and as a board member of Mobile Telecom-Service LLP.

“I would like to express my appreciation to Niklas for his many contributions, which have included the growth of our Baltic markets, the restructuring of our German operations and in the establishment of our JV in Kazakhstan,” said Allison Kirkby, president and CEO of Tele2.

Fredrik Stenberg, currently director of customer operations and member of the shared operations leadership team, will assume the position as acting COO.

Tele2 has immediately started its search for a replacement.

Last week, Tele2 announced that it had appointed Stefan Backman as executive vice president of group general counsel and as a member of its leadership team. He will assume the position, replacing Caroline Fellenius-Omnell, on December 1 and will report to Kirkby. GTB
