Reliance Communications (RCOM) launches what it claims is the first “Make in India” cloud-centric network platform for global enterprise networks

Cloud X WAN, launched with RCOM subsidiary Global Cloud Xchange (GCX), is the latest addition to the firm’s Cloud X portfolio.

The Wide Area Network solution will provide cloud-based managed services globally across the company’s proprietary CLOUD X ecosystem. It is implemented across hubs along GCX’s global subsea network infrastructure.

“In today’s market, it is evident that SD WAN is rapidly gaining momentum as it offers an innovative way to adapt traditional WANs to Cloud services,” said GCX and RCOM (Enterprise) CEO Bill Barney.

“Cloud X WAN, was developed to address the market, offering an affordable solution which embraces flexibility, scalability and enhanced security.”

The platform will enable enterprises to subscribe to network services on a pay as you go basis. It uses a centralised SD WAN architecture to provide managed multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) and SD WAN services. It also offers virtualised network functions such as virtual CPE and VPNs, virtual firewall and security, virtual WAN optimisation, and storage as a service across the CGX network.

“Cloud X WAN is an evolution of GCX’s existing hybrid WAN service which already connects more than 20,000 locations to a global MPLS network via the Internet,” said RCOM (Enterprise) and GCX SVP of product management Braham Singh.

“A simple SD WAN router will form the basic building block, carrying out instructions from a centralized SD WAN controller. This device will perform key routing functions and other virtualized network services as selected in real-time in a portal by the customer.”

Earlier this week, RCOM and its GCX announced the deployment of Fast Edge content delivery network (CDN). GTB
